Mount Magazine Facts

Mt. Magazine is Arkansas' newest State Park, with a massive construction currently underway. Rising up from the ashes of the old lodge that burned in the 1970's is a new lodge to match the majesty of it's location. The view will be breathtaking from the new lodge which should have around 100 rooms, plus facilities for meetings, and a restaurant.

The new lodge overlooks the western edge of Yell County, with Blue Mountain Lake directly below (about 2500 feet below!). The lodge is perched on the southern bluffs of the mountain, near the top of the mountain.

Mt. Magazine is 2,753 feet above sea level at it's highest point, making it the highest point between the Rockie Mountains and the Alleghenes. The valley below is only about 300 feet above sea level, making the mountain easily the most prominent feature in the area.

From the southern face of the mountain you can see the northern edge of the Ouachita Mountain Range. Magazine itself is a part of the Ozark National Forest. From the first overlook on Hwy 309 coming up from Havana you can even see the Petit Jean Mountain to the east.
